Once again, science follows science fiction. Pister's idea of "smart dust" was first published in December 2000, but it is just plagiarism, and not a new idea at all. Author Vernor Vinge, a retired professor of mathematics, multiple winner of the Hugo Award and credited as being the grandf...

Cardinal rule: One reverb per track! Use it as a postfader send effect. The only exception is using a small-space reverb (eg a plate reverb) as an inline effect with a very short decay time. Delays, much the same story, but if you use more than one, they need to be quantised or synced to the same ti...

I'm not knocking the sterling efforts of our own R.E.G.E.N. crew (and other outfits elsewhere like TrancePlant) at getting several thousand tree-lets into our Mother Earth, but it's a microscopic drop in the water next to Peru's effort -- forty million trees, in three months. According to the story ...

Use what you know. The most important thing any computer-based musician needs to know is what program works the way they do. Every major DAW program has a different workflow, which is why no one program is the best for everyone. The more a program stays out of your face, the better it is. Once you c...
