Nah, just work 2 jobs, and accounts at both don’t seem to take enough tax out of my pay.

I think it’s mainly cause while I do earn over $fifitysomething thousand between the 2, neither takes out money I owe from hecs at uni, cos they only do this if you earn over $45k I think. Something like that anyway.

I’m thinking it’s time after the next tax return, to register event company business number n such, and write off everything I spend on stuff like decors etc.
Could make a little difference.
Bastards take way too much of my money!

Will need business number etc in the next year anyway if we go ahead with organising an event the proper legit way…

You only get the gst back on your business purchases, and after a while if you don't turn a profit they say you are a hobby business, and lose any benefit from your tax return!

I do owe like $7k in tax though, so not sure if I get it or if they will just take it off my debt. No one seems to know this for certain…

you will get it. check the ATO site.

the thing i haven't understood is i have met several people who have claimed they have already received the $900.
could that be correct?

A load of students already have it, or are inline to get it on their next payday. $950.00 for them. Families already have it.

How did a migration consultancy and an online therapist get on this list?

I have better things to spend the money on, and I am sure that there are people that need the money more than me.

Yup - I got my bonus paid last week as I'm a student on Youth Allowance: $950.. I just got fingers crossed that I'll get the $900 tax bonus too as I did lodge a tax return last year :)

^^yeah I’ve done my return, just ended up owing tonnes again:(
But considering the whole purpose of this scheme is for us to spend money, I’m hoping they give me the cash, rather than take it off my debt:p

bugger, a handy tip that ive been doing for years now is intentionally paying in to a higher tax bracket than i need to, i make a bit less each pay but i get used to that and learn to work around it. come tax time i always get something back...no nasty surprises and usually a nice bonus. It's like a forced savings account.

have a nice day

Me too - I received my student payment last week or so...

But, can anyone provide any information as to whether eligible people are entitled to receive more than one payment? It would be fantastic if I was able to get the tax bonus as well as my study bonus, however I'm skeptical... My parents said they'd be eligible under five different categories, but I can't see the government handing out nearly $5,000 if they don't have to...

Somebody tell me I'm wrong, though!

you are wrong!

Being eligible in one category does not make you ineligible in the others. I'll bet you $900.00 that, you students will get another payment in the next few weeks.

Five categories? dunno if there are that many.

ato.gov.au has all the info

Oh VJ, you understand I now have my hopes up... *clasps hands together in prayer*

My parents own a farm, so I thought they mentioned about being eligible for some "farmy" payments or something... I could be wrong, though.

no.. It means people who paid tax.

you, my dear, should be up for the $950.00 as a student PLUS the $900.00 as a tax payer (if you did your taxes and had more than 11k taxable income). Give me some.

I'm going to start charging commission.

you have to have been on austudy or abstudy or any other centrelink benifit last year to get the bonus

or an apprentic

trainees are not covered by the student bonus even though we are in the same area as an aprentic

and cause i made no clames with centre wank last year i no get extra moneys
