MotherNature is a common representation of nature that focuses on the life giving and nurturing properties of the Earth by embodying it in the form of a mother. To this extent the masculine form of the sun, when combined with the feminine form of the Earth, work together to create the conditions required for life on Earth.

MotherNature takes place in Canberra in late February, at a time when the golden colours of summer are in full swing and life is abundant and flourishing. We aim to provide an experience that allows you to bask in the warm sun with your friends and immerse yourself in music, arts, culture and lifestyle.

Our venue – Rose Cottage http://www.rosecottagecanberra.com

Rose Cottage is a bouttique heritage listed homestead on the South side of Canberra. The site features a number of old buildings used as cafes, bars and our indoor Terra stage. There is also an expansive outdoor area, with a sandpit, plenty of grassed areas and trees for shade, a large number of tables and chairs on which to sit and relax, our Gaia main stage and of course, our quaint chill and lifestyle areas nestled into the corners.

This festival will bring a variety of artists and friends together from across Australia, as well as support our local talent. There will be some fantastic decor, artwork, lighting, visuals, performance art and staging production. In addition to the formal proceedings there are a number of activities, such as workshops, our morning "hug fest" and our soon-to-be-famous "Sunday pool party" with super soaker action on the main stage. Servants of Sound will be providing an excellent sound setup.

Presale tickets can be bought from the following link for $40 + booking fee. $2.50 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, GreenTix will plant one tree for every ticket sold.

http://ascension.greentix.com.au/events/60819

Double Vision (Byron Bay, NSW)
http://www.myspace.com/activevsspliffun
Fowl Play Records/Bio Sine Records

DOUBLE VISION - world renowned as the "thunder from down under" have taken the Australian Trance scene by storm. Four years of nonstop production and relentless performances all over the country have established the duo’s reputation as fail-safe dancefloor killers.

Their brand of pounding, bouncing and deep production with a North New South Wales twist rings as clear favourite with their local crowd. Witnessing “the lads” – Daniel Fagan and Dhillon Tiffon – growing up before their eyes, the local crowd has developed a fondness of the duo that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere.

Having supported world superstars such as GMS (Ibiza), Shpongle (UK) and U-Recken (Israel) – DOUBLE VISION have transcended from their position as “supporting act” to undisputed headliner status.

The next revolution is in DOUBLE VISION!

MSG (Sydney, NSW)
Subsonic Music

MSG (Scott Commens) is a DJ, label owner and event promoter from Sydney. Having always had a keen taste for new music and new artists, his initial interest was more from a rock perspective with ambitions to DJ and host his own radio show. Dance music became king when MSG began mixing vinyl in 1996 shortly after discovering the sounds of acid techno and psy-trance. From here he evolved into a versatile DJ able to meet the demands of any dance floor playing everything from psy-trance (NoMSG) & progressive, to techno and house. Following a decade of DJing at parties all over Australia, MSG embarked on the next chapter of his musical career and founded Subsonic Music in 2006. The Subsonic saga began with monthly club events in Sydney and has now grown to incorporate a record label (releasing on Beatport), and more recently has sent shockwaves through the festival circuit with a classy new breed of event just north of Sydney, the Subsonic Music Festival.

Ugly Bunyip (Canberra, ACT)

Ugly Bunyip is an ancient beast that hails from the mythology of the traditional caretakers of the land we call Australia. Even before the first fleet landed in 1788, Europeans expected to see fabulous creatures down under. Now this is your chance. Expect an uplifting, bass driven but etheral experience to help celebrate the new day.

Hammer & Tongs (Canberra, ACT)

Hammer & Tongs is the combined project of Chilltata and Apply Steve

Chilltata is a fusion of sounds always delivered in a relaxed, laid back style. Expect music ranging from ambient, through to minimal, progressive, tripped out, glitch, trip hop, and other associated noises of that persuasion. All geared towards your general enjoyment.

You apply Steve like you apply sunscreen. Upon the application of Steve the consciousness usually known as Alex transforms into an altogether different entity, usually involved in various forms of doof shenanigans. Steve tends to come out on weekends after sunrise at doofs and the effects can be unpredictable.

VJ INSAN3 (Canberra, ACT)

Usually found in darkly lit areas side-of-stage, surrounded by the eerie glow of multiple screens, INSAN3 can be observed in his natural technological environment clicking and tweaking as if compelled by the music itself to create his over-stimulating trademark use of colour and subject matter.

Although not indigenous to the Canberra region, he has been seen performing at festivals, nightclubs, doofs, parties and corporate/gallery installations since 2004; tailoring his video-art to the accompanying environment, which usually consists of dance/electronic music. Commonly seen conspiring with other artists, this particular VJ specialises in multi-screen and oddly shaped surface visuals which can be defined loosely as a reactive composition of stock and live elements.

Bumble (Sydney, NSW)
http://www.myspace.com/akinode
Regen Records

STYLE: WIDE including; Wonky, wobbly, IDM, Dub-step, breaks, down-beat, glitch-hop and so on………
The solo project of bumble is a hive of audio vibrations set into the air by an infatuation of audio play and music composition. It is the reflection of nature that constantly surrounds bumble on flights, and is the soundtrack to his often hermitudinal life (much to do in the hive). People know bumble as max.

After coming to the psychedelic fray through the underground outdoor music festival scene in 1998, the driving power of stomach rumbling bass wobbling- heavily psychedelic music has captured his creative attention.

Creating sonically diverse music within software platforms, using software and hardware synths, the unifying theme of his music reflects nature, experience, perception and aspires to spark connection.

Max has been playing bass-heavy, up-beat and down-beat creations in NSW, Victoria and Queensland (and recently in BA, Argentina) since the beginning of 2006. Recently playing mainstage at both the 2009 Tribeadelic and Cairns Winter Solstice Festivals. Max finds much pleasure in honestly recreating his music in a live context through playing in live synth and continually adding and filtering elements on the fly.

Daheen (Sydney, NSW)
http://www.myspace.com/daheen
Regen Records

The Daheen psytrance experience is something to behold. He has aimed to create a distinctive style, fusing sounds and melodies to tell a story or convey a concept, as well as provide a stomping good dance. He incorporates many samples from the real world, especially animal sounds as seen in his popular track ‘Jungle Juice’ released on EPP Records in 2004. His unique live set has to be seen to be believed, providing a visual theatrical element which believe it or not features animals playing guitar! Incorporating different masks and costumes to go with each differently themed track, the Daheen live psy set is extremely entertaining, comical, bizarre, and a great dance. Daheen has been showcasing his live performance up and down the east coast of Australia as well as recent performances in the UK and on the European festival circuit. Recent releases include 'Direct flight' - a track with Psyboriginal on his album "Unleashed", and 'Regrowth' - from the debut Regen Records compilation "Tree Dimensional". Stay tuned for the Daheen full length psytrance album coming soon.

Paqman (Melbourne, VIC)
http://www.myspace.com/paqmanelectronica
http://www.facebook.com/paqmanelectronica
http://www.twitter.com.paqmanband

Ditching a career halfway down the halls of power, paqman made the move from Canberra to the greener, more hip pastures of Melbourne last year. Since trying to make their way up from the bottom yet again, the big beat duo have refined their experimental electronic sound to something a little more indie, a tad bit hip hop, dark like the backroom and a whole lot more dancefloor friendly. Paqman incorporate deep melodics and huge beats around a grinding analogue sound, a new trend in electronic music that's ready and able to shake the genre to it's roots. A sound that will make electro giants rethink the direction of dance music.

Having supported the big names in dance since the age of 15 (Endorphin, Akufen, The Aston Shuffle and Gareth Emery to name but a few), the now 20 year olds have been persistently producing electronica the likes of which are rare to find. When not in the studio the two are constantly in transit between their two hometowns, playing shows from all ages events to clubs and outdoor dance festivals such as Dragon Dreaming. After winning the approval of prog-houser Jaytech, their talents were recognised by a 60 minute live set aired on Triple J's 'Mix Up'. Shortly after, they placed second in a global remix competition for the song Salmon Dance, by their big beat heroes The Chemical Brothers. In 2007 they self released a progressive concept album titled 'Deux' cementing them as valuable contributors to the Canberran music scene, and not as your average cookie-cutter house producers.

But the band draw influence from well outside the dance genre. Progressive rock outfits Tool and The Mars Volta pull the boys in one direction, whilst hip hop trendsetters Dr Dre and the Wutang Clan pull in another. Mellow and melodic duo Air, along with heavyweights Daft Punk, inspire paqman with the golden era of French house. But it's the sound of '95 - '97, that of the big beat movement, pioneered by their idols The Chemical Brothers that drive the boys in their homebuilt studio of dirty machines and smoke. Their music is screaming from the rooftops for a big beat revival; and it's just about their time.

Anjay (Canberra, ACT)

Anjay music comes from another place let it be breaks or tech house over years it shares the same common themes “dark and driving”. Anjays prime motivation is to touch the darker/deeper emotions with his DJing and production.

During early 2000’s within the breaks genre he has supported such internationals as Adam Freeland, Tayo and Rennie Pilgrim to name a few. He is a dj/producer who is trying to find a style that can be only described as “dark” and sometimes “claustrophobic”.

Now heading into 2010 playing a mix of minimal and tech house sounds. He still showcases the “dark” and “claustrophobic” style that made him renowned with Canberra and national audiences. With a album and ep due out in 2010. You have been warned.

Walski (Melbourne, VIC)

Chris Wallis' love of forward thinking technological(electronic) based music came from a early age. Even to the point of being lost in Nowra K-MART while captivated at a display for a Commodore 64 as a 6 year old. This is one of the moments at a young age that has underpinned his love for technology and the future driven ideals that comes with it.

Spin forward years and Chris still has that passion for technology. From working in the IT industry to sound production and DJ work at clubs / events. Motivated by the past in all forms of music including electronic but always has eyes looking towards the future. He feels that technology in all forms including music should drive innovation and creativity for betterment of all and sundry.

Peekz (Canberra, ACT)
http://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Peekz/9730302843
Trancetribe Recordings

2009 Has definitely been a step up for Peekz. Already a local known in the prog/trance scenes for many years, the year began with a big support slot for Australia's #1 voted DJ, TyDi, which drew rave reviews. Following on from there saw Peekz become a regular for Pang! nights of the progressive variety with support slots for acts such as Morgan Page (US), Adam K (CAN), Hook & Sling (SYD) and local heroes Aston Shuffle. Not content with that for a bio line, he then upped the ante with 2 more huge supports in the progressive arena, closing for Anthony Pappa (UK/AUS) and playing not only before, but after the legendary Nick Warren (UK).

You'd think that would be enough in a 6 month stint to rest your laurels on, but that wasn't the case. Another support slot warming up for TyDi then followed, and June saw Peekz taking out the 2009 Pang! DJ competition. The 2nd half of 2009 is what could be the cherry on the cake thus far, a support slot for Hybrid (UK) whom Peekz lists as one of his biggest influences, add to this two more support slots for TyDi, support for Marlo (NL/AUS) and a slot at Canberra's biggest party of 2009, Foreshore.

Directions:

Rose Cottage is on the Corner of Isabella Drive and Monaro Highway in Gilmore, ACT.

If coming from Sydney travel down the Hume Highway towards Goulburn. After you have passed Goulburn, you will need to take the Federal Highway turnoff to Canberra.

As you approach Canberra, about 15km before you reach the town (and after you have passed the Rydges on your left) you need to turn left from the Federal Highway onto Majura Road. Follow Majura Road until it's end then turn left onto Fairbairn Avenue at the T-intersection. Shortly after this you will need to turn right onto Moreshead drive (this is the same road as Pialligo Avenue) at another T-intersection.

Simply stay on Moreshead Drive until you see left turn onto Monaro Highway. Turn left onto Monaro Highway.

***Please note that close to the exit of Majura road, and around Moreshead drive/Monaro Highway entrance, there has been a lot of roadwork. These directions are accurate at the time of writing.***

You will need to follow the Monaro Highway for some distance, at least 10 minutes or so, until you pass Hume on your left. As you pass Hume, get into the right hand lane and look for a right turn onto Isabella Drive. When you see Isabella Drive, turn right onto it, go into the left hand lane and drive very slow and follow the festival signage. The entrance to Rose Cottage is about 300m from the roundabout on the left hand side.

If coming from Melbourne direction, follow the Hume Highway towards Sydney, then when you arrive at Yass you need to take the Barton Highway exit to Canberra. Follow the Barton Highway until it ends at the intersection with the Federal Highway. Turn left at the Federal Highway and travel towards Sydney. Shortly after leaving town, there is a left hand exit that takes you to Majura Road. The sign says exit to Gungahlin, Fyshwick and Cooma. Gungahlin is off to the left. You need to take the exit and then turn right onto Majura Road towards Fyshwick and Cooma. From there, simply follow the directions above.

Friday Camping/Chilled night

Good news everyone!

The owner of Rose Cottage has given us permission to setup camp on the Friday night! So the plan at this stage is to have a chilled out night on the Friday. Basically, its a chance to hang out on the Friday evening, socialise, and do some fire twirling, drumming, percussion, etc. All welcome!

For those travelling from interstate, this might be a good way to ease yourselves into the festival experience, allowing you to start fresh on Saturday lunchtime when gates open without having to travel that day. There will be plenty of workshops and music on Saturday afternoon so good to arrive early so that you don't miss out on any of the action.

Site Rules

No alcohol is to be brought into the site. This will be strictly enforced. There are two licensed bars on the site with reasonable prices. The drinks from the bars are already cold and are super convenient to purchase. Cars and bags may be searched on entry by our security to stop people from smuggling in alcohol. Please do not bring your own grog.

In respecting this rule, please bear in mind that in not bringing your own alcohol you are also helping the site owner to have a successful weekend as well, and this means that us and other event organizers may be allowed back to run events in the future.

Because there are two licensed bars operating at this event, the party is 18+ only. ID will be checked on entry so please do not forget to bring your ID.

This event is also drug free. Please remember that abstinence is the safest form of drug use. If you choose to use, please bear in mind that you may be breaking the law. Look after your mates. If anyone is in trouble, get help. We have first aid on site for the duration of the event.

Wristbands must be worn at all times. Wristbands allow security to determine whether people have been granted proper access to the event. If you are caught not wearing a wristband you will be taken to the door by security and asked to buy a ticket. If you then do not buy a ticket you will be asked to leave the festival. If your wristband is starting to come off, you will need to come to the door in order to get a replacement.

No dogs are allowed. The site is not suitable for pets, so please leave them at home. Loud music also frightens animals who tend to possess much better hearing than what we do.

Please drive slowly in all areas around the site. Although we have had recent rain, driving slow will keep the dust down and ensure the safety of festival goers. Please follow the directions of all signage and parking/camping officials.

Hints and Tips for a successful weekend

Drink plenty of water. This is a summer festival and the daytime temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees. A water station will be setup on site in order to keep you hydrated. We recommend that you bring a water bottle to fill up. Bottles of water can also be purchased from the bar and cups of water are available for free.

Although the forecast is for good weather, make sure that you bring a range of clothing to the festival so that you are fully prepared for whatever eventuates. Hats and sunscreen are highly recommended.

Don't forget to eat! The festival runs for 32 hours in total. In order to keep your energy up we recommend eating periodically throughout the festival. One technique that many people use to keep their energy up is to snack regularly, rather than having one or two big meals. We have 3 food stalls on site as well as a cafe. Both meat and vegetarian options are available, as well as a range of healthy and tasty snacks and drinks. In order to support our stall operators we would appreciate your business so that their weekend is as successful as yours.

Music - Those of you into harder music will likely enjoy the night time aspect of the festival. You may wish to party at night and then sleep a little through the day. Those of you into slower and deeper music will probably appreciate the day time music more. You may wish to sleep a little at night in order to save your energy for the daylight hours.

Don't forget that there will be different music on each of the stages at any given time. If you want a change, or a break from whatever is playing, simply move to a different stage and experience a different groove. Alternatively, it may be time to relax for a while. Taking the odd break will allow you to party longer and enrich your festival experience.

Sleep - Our recommendation would be to get a few hours sleep (but not too many!!!) at some point during the festival and to stay for the duration of the festival if possible. We have some great acts, workshops and activities on both during the night and the day time.

Please follow the old adage Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. These words, if practiced by all, will ensure a peaceful and harmonious festival where everyone looks after each other. The word 'respect' also applies to our environment. Leave no trace and take your litter with you, or put it into the bins that we will provide.

Mentor and coach: We ask that those of you with experience of doof culture to look after the younger generation. If you are bringing a first-timer to the festival please introduce them carefully.

Be free and self-express: The MotherNature team have worked hard to build a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages creativity and self-expression. Take the opportunity that this presents.

Learn and grow: In addition to the music there will be opportunities to learn about new fields and develop as a person. There are a number of great workshops and people around to interact with.

Remember - This festival is more than just a party. It's a lifestyle. Bear in mind that some of the things that make these events worthwhile is spending time socialising with friends, meeting new ones, and enjoying the outdoors.

Hey everyone. Just a quick reminder. Please be quiet and respectful if camping on the Friday night. There is another function on at Rose Cottage that night, in the bar area. We will be outside in the camping area enjoying a BBQ.
