Kids' disco told to turn loud music down
August 19, 2008 - 3:48PM
A New Zealand kindergarten disco that got a noise complaint on Friday night could be heard two doors down the road, Auckland City Council says.
A noise control officer was sent to One Tree Hill Kindergarten in Auckland at around 6.30pm after a noise complaint.
Staff were instructed to turn down the stereo, which was pumping out tracks from Bob the Builder and the Chicken Dance, or clear out.
An Auckland City Council spokesperson said the "noise was deemed by our noise control officer to be excessive".
The music could be heard two doors down the road.
There was a DJ with speakers, as well as an MC who was heard above the music.
"The noise control officer asked the kindergarten to turn the music down, not off entirely."
A teacher at the kindergarten told Radio New Zealand she did not think the disco was "raging".
The music had not become loud enough to prevent some of the younger partygoers falling asleep.
She said the music was turned down and they partied on until 7pm.
