The Art Of Sampling

Alot of stuff is sampled in .wav format these days . . .

http://tracker.modarchive.org/

You can sample records, cassettes, video cassettes, dvd's, cd's or you can sample stuff from dialup Zmodem BBS systems, you can also sample stuff off the internet, of cause you can sample stuff off synths, musical instruments & microphones as well . . .

http://www.freesound.org/

Ripping is another form of sampling . . .

Modulated sound modules which can even include those files like .wavs or .mp3's can all be ripped, you need a program called a ripper & these will rip out samples otherwise known as instruments from a modulated sound file. You will find the really finely tuned instruments not in .wav's or .mp3's but in other sound modules usually made by programs called trackers,

see . . . http://xmp.sourceforge.net/ for the tool to play & possibly rip all these modules.

Note when you sample or rip you are actually dubbing, for a sample is called a dub, once the sound is sampled it is usually modified using a .wav editor & once cleaned up the sample is then called a instrument & the pitch & frequency can then be manipulated with a tool called a tracker . . .

Note the Mod archive only has a limited library of sound modules http://modarchive.org/
