Luminate is an earth friendly festival of music, dance, art, creativity and sustainability, situated 2000ft up a quartz crystal mountain, in an energetically powerful setting surrounded by native bush. Join us to celebrate the ancient pagan summer harvest festival of Lughnasadgh, midway between the solstice and equinox. Music: Luminate features an inspiring line-up of performers from Aotearoa and overseas, taking you on a unique, flowing journey through a diverse range of Live music, World Grooves, Tribal rhythms, Progressive, Breaks, Psytrance, House, Dub, Funk, Folk, Roots, Soul, sublime Chill out and more. Tribal drumming zone: At the heart of the festival, bring your drums and other percussion and get in the tribal groove around the fire. The Harmonic zone: is a live music acoustic zone, featuring a combination of open mic, open jam, and scheduled performances. A place to get truely creative and musically spontaneous. Bring your instruments and join in! Workshops: cover a range of topics such as Permaculture, Sacred Geometry, the Mayan calendar, Pure dance (a journey through the chakras), Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation, Healing techniques including Reiki and Reflexology, Sanskrit Mantras, Shamanic journeying to Didgeridoo, Positive solutions for Paradise, Natural Voice, Philosophy, The Five Love Languages, Indymedia, Emotional Freedom Technique, Hemp use, Belly Dancing, and more… At night a range of enlightening movies and documentaries will screen. The Flaming Jugglepoitoy zone will also host a series of workshops where you can learn new skills of poi, staff twirling, devil sticks, juggling......AND learn to make your own juggling toys! Suitable for kids and adults. The Healing space: features a range of holistic therapies including massage and reiki, from experienced, professional healers. Market stalls, arts and crafts, delicious refreshments including vegetarian, organic and locally sourced food and drinks, fair trade coffee, herbal teas and chai. Location: From Nelson, head to Motueka and then follow SH60 towards Takaka. Canaan Downs road is on the top of the Takaka Hill road. Luminate is a zero waste event: We are creating a new culture of self-reliance and sustainability. We welcome you to help us facilitate this change. Zero waste means that food and drink stalls will be serving refreshments into ceramics or direct to your own plate or cup, rather than disposable plates and cups. (Remember to bring your own utensils too!). There will be no rubbish bins or recycling facilities. Be prepared to pack out what you bring in and leave no trace. There will be a composting area for biodegradables. Children gain free admission, and with the circus skills workshops, face painting, storytelling, roving performers, hair braiding, and the faery parade there’s plenty of additional entertainment for them to enjoy and participate in. The festival site layout and art installations have been designed using sacred geometry and natural materials. With spacious camping and bush walks, all in a stunningly beautiful environment, treat yourself to a long weekend with a difference.
